What is Sigle Action Shooting?

Single Action Shooting is a recognised international discipline which uses firarms either original, replica or a modern equivelant of firearms used in the american wild west of pre 1899

Why cant I use all pre 1899 firearm types?

When the Founders of Single Action Shooting were making the rules, they decided that Colt and Winchester were the types of firearms that were the cornerstone of the Old West and as such limited the discipline to these styles.
if a firearm complies with the rules in the shooters handbook then can it can be used

Why Do I have To Have An Alias?

An alias is part of the theatre of the discipline. It is quite a unique thing to be able to create a persona either from the pages of history, your favourite movie or TV show, or from your own imagination and be allowed to embody that character. Mind you some people choose to follow a simpler path and just ''be themselves'' and use their own nickname as an alias.

Do I Really Have To Dress Up as a Cowboy/Cowgirl?

Yes you do. But you can choose how far into the costuming you wish to go. some people choose to do the bare minimum the rules allow, where others embrace the costuming side of things with a fever. I have seen people wearing costumes to the major Match Dinners which you would swear have come from a museum. The availability of faithful reproduction clothing is quite surprising and the cost is not much different from some of the more fashionable modern clothes we wear.

What is ''Spirit of the Game''?

Spirit of the game is easiest explained by quoting directly from the Shooters Handbook.

As the game of Cowboy Action Shooting has evolved, our members have developed and adopted an attitude towards their participation we call, “The Spirit of the Game''. Competing in "The Spirit of the Game" means you fully participate in what the competition asks. You do not look for ways to create an advantage out of what is or is not stated as a rule or shooting procedure.
Some folks would call ''The Spirit of the Game'' nothing more than good sportsmanship.
Whatever you call it if you dont have it, Cowboy Action Shooting is not your game.

A spirit of the game infraction occurs when a competitor willfully or intentionally disregards the stage instructions in order to obtain a competitive advantage (i.e. taking the penalty would result in a lower score or faster time than following the instructions) and is not assessed simply because a competitor “makes a mistake. In such a case in addition to any
penalties for misses a 30-second failure to engage ''Spirit of the Game'' penalty is assessed.

Shooting ammunition that does not meet the power factor or minimum velocity is also a ''spirit of the game'' infraction.
Two ''spirit of the game'' penalties within a match will result in a Match Disqualification.

As you can see from this, Single Action Shooting is holding to traditions of fair play and honor among competitors. this attracts individuals and families. It sets a good example for kids to see people at all levels of a sport interacting on an equal footing and showing respect to all and to the rules of the sport.
